Assignment:
The aim of this unit is to develop your broader knowledge and understanding of the historical, social, practical, theoretical and cultural developments of contemporary visual culture. You will be encouraged to reflect on, analyse and contextualise your own work, informing your practice through theoretical investigation. Focussing on acquiring skills in research and critical analysis will enable you to formulate and develop a proposal for the extended piece of written work to be produced in year3. This unit is assessed holistically (100% of the unit). Assessment will be against the specified marking criteria. Students will submit a portfolio of writing that consists of two parts:
1) an analytical essay, which develops a thesis on a particular film, animation, video game, artwork or artist (1600 words)
2) a proposal for an extended piece of written work containing a rationale, methodology, literature review and documentation of process (600 words).
All sources used in the text must be referenced and included in the bibliography using the Harvard Style. Your text should be illustrated with appropriate images, diagrams, etc. that enhance and support the points discussed and overall intent of your assignment. All illustrations must also be referenced.
